Google pay not working today

Many people came up to me during the stream and wanted to know what was happening. So I did a quick recap in case anyone missed some parts or wanted a TL;DR!

Google pay is an app that’s only been available for a week, so it’s understandable to see some bugs.

Google Pay is a new app that’s only been available for a week, so it’s understandable to see some bugs. The app is still in beta and has only some of the features of its full release. It also needs to be clarified how many people are using it, though recent reports suggest that more than 100 million people use Android phones with Google Pay installed worldwide.

Get an email with instructions for fixing the issue you’re having.

If that doesn’t work, try contacting Google Play Store directly: https://support.google.com/payments/answer/1617063?hl=en&ref_topic=2481014.

To make sure you’re working correctly, try again in 15 minutes.

If you still need help, try again in 15 minutes. If that doesn’t work, try again in 30 minutes. And if that’s still not working for you, we recommend checking back two hours from nowβ€”and then three hours from now!

Conclusion: Don’t bother emailing Google. It’s not their problem.

How to fix the issue without talking to a service rep

As promised, here is a complete guide to correct the problem.

Step 1: Get an email from Google suggesting you try again 15 minutes later if you still have issues with the app.

Step 2: The email will point you to a form on the app store where you can manually update it. The instructions in this email point out that you need to download GCP (Google Cloud Platform). So, if you don’t know how to do that yet, search for “how do I install google play store” and follow those instructions instead of following these instructions (which assume you already have GCP downloaded and working).

Step 3: Read through all the steps in the form and make sure everything is correct. If it isn’t, just hit “next,” then “complete,” and wait for confirmation that your payment method was updated successfully on your account settings page. When it’s fixed, go back through all the above steps until your problem is resolved!
